What Is Website Optimization
Websites and optimization are
a difficult subject to discuss. In order to understand
the difference between an optimized website and
one that is not let us compare two advertisements
in the classified section of your local newspaper.
- Car for sale - 2003 chevy camaro, good tires,
stereo, runs good, has 83,000 miles, red, 8
cylinder, 2 door. $10,000
- 2003 Chevy Camaro For Sale - Only 5
years old and runs like a top! Awesome stereo
system, Fire Engine Red with an 8 cylinder
power house. 2 Door coupe,
just broken in with only 83,000 original
miles.
Both advertisements will run in the classifieds.
As you can see ad#2 draws your attention to it
more than ad#1. The bold words, red font, underlined
words and catchy phrases make advertisement #2
more attractive to the reader than advertisement
#1 even though both convey the same information.
Now let's consider search engines
and how they rank websites. A search engine spider
visits each of these advertisements. The spider
soon realizes that the same information is present
in both advertisements. Both ads cannot rank equally
as well so one must be ranked #1 and the other
#2. The search engines realize ad#2 reads, looks,
and conveys the information better than ad#1 so
it gets the top ranking.
